A musician’s musician, a legend of downtown New York’s experimental scene, a gifted keyboardist and prolific post-modern composer, Tyranny passed away December 12 due to complications from diabetes. As a collaborator with Laurie Anderson, Iggy Pop and Robert Ashley, Tyranny’s music spanned genres and decades. “One of the most important creative figures of his generation,” the critic Nicole Gagne wrote of Tyranny’s work. ....
Drowse’s Kyle Bates discusses his favorite albums of 2020 After a busy 2019 that included the release of two Drowse albums, main member Kyle Bates stayed quieter in 2020, but he did listen to plenty of other people s music, and he now made us a list of his 11 favorite albums of the year. It includes Flenser labelmates Sprain and The Microphones, some ambient ( Sarah Davachi), some black metal ( Paysage d’hiver, and more), and Kyle had plenty of interesting things to say about each album.
