It’s hard to believe the 21st century is already 20 percent behind us! When I was a young lad, the 21st century always seemed so far in the future to me. It was a time I envisioned as filled with flying cars and death rays and vacations on the moon and lots of other cool stuff! We haven’t quite attained that level of technology yet, but we’re rapidly closing in on it. Small children of today will more than likely see all those dreams and more come to fruition before the century is even half-gone. ....
The Marion County Hospital District trustees passed on a multimillion-dollar plan to renovate the College of Central Florida s gym into a nursing school facility. CF President Jim Henningsen brought the idea to the trustees in June after the prospects of state money for a new health science building at the college dwindled thanks to impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. State officials expect deep cuts to the budget during the coming legislative session because of drops in tax revenue. But the Legislature had already frozen out the CF building project, appropriating nothing to the planned building for the last two years. ....
COVID-19: Officials say Ocala has plenty of hospital beds despite surge As COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Marion County, officials said Friday that residents should not fear that area hospitals will run out of beds anytime in the immediate future. The news comes despite a map produced by the New York Times this week that shows Marion County has been nearing overall hospital capacity in recent days during the pandemic, which has sickened 14 million people nationwide and 1 million in Florida. More than 97% of all beds at the three main Marion County hospitals, as well as 95% of all ICU beds, were occupied Friday morning. But at least 88% of those patients were hospitalized for ailments other than COVID-19, according to data. ....
