Door-to-door survey, monitoring at Palwal helped contain virus spread

Updated: Share Article AAA A multipronged strategy that involved setting up of macro containment zones, door-to-door survey and daily monitoring of cases through youth committees helped contain the spread of deadly COVID-19 in the villages of Palwal, a district with predominantly rural population. With the surge in cases of infection in mid-April in the district, inadequate health infrastructure with just 350 oxygen beds was the biggest challenge for the authorities. “Therefore, the strategy was to contain the spread. We had meetings with the market associations and persuaded them to shut the shops on Sundays to prevent overcrowding and facilitate sanitisation. It worked wonders,” said Deputy Commissioner Naresh Narwal.

Black Boys' Trauma and Misunderstood Behavior

The Atlantic Too often their behavior is pathologized, but actually it’s rational. Rita Barros / Getty Social workers and educators who see young people especially Black boys who live in poor, segregated neighborhoods react aggressively, become irritable, or have trouble concentrating, often identify such behavior as maladaptive. But new research, led by Noni Gaylord-Harden, a clinical psychologist at Texas A&M University, proposes that the young people’s behavior is a rational response to their environment and helps keep them safe. Her findings suggest that instead of focusing on these behaviors identifying them as pathologies to be punished or symptoms to be treated policy makers need to recognize them as adaptive and work to change the inequitable environment that produces them.
