Dargaville Library will close for two weeks while it is refurbished.

Dargaville Library is encouraging customers to stock up with books and DVDs during May before the library is closed temporarily for a freshen-up. The library will close from 5pm on May 28 and reopen on June 15. Lisa Salter, Kaipara Libraries Manager, said they are rearranging some of the facilities to make better use of the space they have. We re moving large print and audiobooks to a quieter space so people will be able to browse better. The public computers will be relocated to be closer to the counter so the team can help customers if they need it. Shelving will be improved and we re installing more CCTV, Salter said. The library will also be recarpeted, and some fittings moved, which means books will have to be boxed and shelves taken down and re-asse ....

Relations Day 2021 will be marked in Whangārei with a free
public event featuring three invited speakers, at Forum
North’s Cafler Room on Monday March 22 from
12pm.
The day commemorates South Africa’s
Sharpeville massacre in 1960, and is the United Nations’
International Day for the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination.
The forum format began in 2019 just
days after the Christchurch massacre, while the 2020 event
was cancelled due to Covid. It begins with light
refreshments, with speeches and questions from 12.15 to
2.15pm. Workers are welcome to bring their
lunch.
Speakers are Andrew Judd, Hori Parata, and
Sue-Anne Moo. Whangarei Mayor Sheryl Mai will make opening ....

The Bay of Islands Waka Ama Festival, which was to have been held at Waitangi on March 13-14, has been postponed due to Covid-19 concerns. A new date has yet to be set. Organisers said they had to decide whether the event would go ahead last week before it was known whether Auckland s level 3 alert would be lifted. Many paddlers had been expected to travel from south of Auckland for the festival. ....
