Suspected assassins yesterday shot dead a mobile police escort and a driver in Warri, Delta State, after allegedly missing their target.
THISDAY learnt that the hoodlums were suspected to be going after the wife of a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and Ijaw leader, Chief Michael Johnny, but narrowly missed their target, and vented their anger on the hapless police escort and the driver.
Johnny also confirmed to THISDAY that his wife was the target of the suspected assassins, saying the attacked vehicle belongs to his wife.
It was gathered that the duo were shot dead at about 11.05 a.m. on Airport Road close to Airport Junction while running an errand for their boss.

Two lovers have been found dead in their one room apartment at Uvwie in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
They were identified as Emmanuel Oshiotu, 33 and Amaka Okafor, 25.
They were found dead at their apartment located at 2, Ojigbo Crescent, Off Sapele-Effurun road.
Amid sketchy details, an insecticide, popularly called “sniper” and a knife, sources said, were found besides their bodies.
The suicide suspicion, as gathered, was reportedly further reinforced by Emmanuel’s post on his Facebook timeline on Wednesday suggesting some frustration.
One of the neighbours of the deceased told journalists that at about 5:00 a.m., Emmanuel was heard screaming for help.

A 33-year-old man, Emmanuel Oshiotu, and his 25-year-old lover, Amaka Okafor, were on Thursday found dead in their one-room apartment in Uvwie community in the Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The lovers corpses were sighted by neighbours in their apartment located at Ojigbo Crescent, Off Sapele-Effurun Road, Uvwie.
A neighbour of the deceased, who declined to be named, said, Around 5 am, we heard Emmanuel shouting for help and on breaking the door, found him vomiting white foam while his lover s lifeless body lay a few distance from him.
