Srinagar: Days after veteran separatist leader Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai died in preventive detention, the Jammu and Kashmir police arrested his two sons under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for âraising anti-national slogansâ during their father’s funeral.
This police action has come under criticism from different quarters, with political parties accusing the administration of punishing the children of the late leader for their father’s ideology. Srinagar: On January 24, 2012, 25-year-old Sajad Ahmad Dar of Sopore, who had a firearm injury in the head, was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and subsequently lodged at the district jail Kupwara. Two months later, he died at Kashmirâs lone tertiary-care health institution â Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS), Soura â a few hours after being brought there for treatment.
Dar’s family blamed the jail authorities for his death, saying they failed to provide him with medical assistance on time. Funeral prayer in absentia of Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, chairman of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, was held in different cities of the United Kingdom (UK) and Europe on Friday.
London, Milan, Barcelona, Birmingham, Brescia, Berlin, Frankfurt, Glasgow, Bradford, Luton, Leeds, Oldham, Walsall were among other various cities where the funeral prayer was organised.
It was offered on the call of Tehreek-e -Kashmir (TeK) UK & Europe. TeK President UK Fahim Kayani and TeK Europe President Muhammad Ghalib also offered the funeral prayer to pay glowing tributes to the Kashmiri leader. ....
