Melaka state OCCI chief Asst Comm Mohd Sukri Kaman said the matter is still under investigation with the singer yet to pay any fine.
“We are in the midst of recording statements from several other individuals and will submit the investigation papers to the public prosecutor once completed.
“It is up to the public prosecutor to decide if it will be compounded or not, ” he said when contacted on Monday (May 10).
ACP Sukri’s clarification comes after reports that Awie’s manager Mubarak Akhtar admitted to the SOP violation and the willingness of the singer to pay the fine.

MELAKA, May 10 No compound has been issued so far in the case of an alleged violation of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) by rock singer Datuk Ahmad Azhar Othman, or better known as Awie, during a humanitarian programme at a hotel at Jalan Hang Tuah here.
Melaka deputy police chief SAC Razali Abu Samah said this was because the case was still under investigation and the process of taking statements from all individuals involved was currently underway.

“We made a mistake and flouted the standard operating procedure (SOP), we admitted it and paid the fine, ” Awie’s manager Mubarak Akhtar said in a short recording sent to the media on Sunday (May 9).
He was responding to a report by Sinar Harian over action being taken involving Awie after a police report was lodged over a 42-second viral video.
The video purportedly shows Awie and several individuals flouting the recovery MCO SOP while attending a humanitarian mission ceremony at a hotel in Jalan Hang Tuah, Melaka recently involving trishaw riders.
