Reports from a number of news sources suggest that the Syrian Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority has finalised a draft licence for a potential third mobile operator, potentially ending a two-decade duopoly.
South African mobile operator MTN is reportedly hoping to do a deal worth $65 million deal for its Syrian business. However, Reuters reports that this sale, amounting to 75 cent of MTN’s Syrian unit, may now be under threat.
