A Limpopo police officer, accused of murdering a man sitting in a car outside a bottle store in Polokwane, made his first appearance in court.
Mphela Kenneth Mokwena, who holds the rank of sergeant, and is stationed at the police s Protection Security Service, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate s Court on a charge of murder.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mokwena, 36, allegedly shot and killed Moloto Kenneth Shongwe, 43, on Saturday night.
It is alleged Shongwe was inside the vehicle at about midnight, waiting for his girlfriend, who was inside the store when Mokwena approached the vehicle and shot him. Mokwena then fled the scene, NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said in a statement. ....
