This week in community briefs, the 26th annual Cops N Gobblers event gives to those in need, the Board of Supervisors secures more funding for youth services and the Mountain View Center for Performing Arts gears up for the holidays.
To celebrate the achievements of the graduating class of 2021 at Alta Vista High School, a fully in-person event was held the sunny afternoon of Tuesday, June 8.
David Gary Cole
David Gary Cole passed away peacefully on May 6, 2021 in Mountain View, California.
David was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 14, 1948 and his family moved to Santa Clara, California when he was 5 years old. He attended Wilcox High School and graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in English Literature. While on track to obtain his teaching credential, David took ownership of Sterling Custom Upholstery, which he ran continuously and successfully for 50 years. He will be sorely missed by the Sterling family and extensive customer base throughout Silicon Valley.
David was an avid storyteller and known jokester, entertaining his fellow Rotarians at the Mountain View Rotary Club where he was active for nearly 40 years. Arts
• Diamond Theatre of Ligonier will conduct auditions for the play, “A Hiro’s Tale,” from 7 to 9 p.m. May 7 and 8 at the theater, 210 W. Main St. Performances will be July 23 to 25. Actors of all ages are needed, no experience necessary. Rehearsals will be Mondays and Wednesdays.
• Greensburg Art Center will feature a juried exhibit with works of various artists and mediums May 15 to June 25 at the Rowe Gallery, 230 Todd School Road. A free opening reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 15. Face masks and social distancing required.

• Laurelville Christian Retreat Center, 941 Laurelville Lane, Mt. Pleasant Township, will host an outdoor yoga event Sunset Yoga with Find Your Fire Fitness at 7 p.m. May 7 atop Laurelville’s Sunset Hill. Bring a mat. In case of rain, the event will be in the Shenandoah gymnasium. Cost: $15.
