ASHIKAGA, Tochigi The mountain forest fire that had been raging in this city north of Tokyo since February have finally been extinguished, the municipal government announced on March 15.
Twenty-two days since the wildfire broke out, no smoke sources could be seen from the air, and no fire or abnormal heat sources could be detected on the ground.
The fire started near the summit of the 251-meter-tall Mount Ryogai in Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture, at around 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 21. The flames then spread to the neighboring Mount Tengu (259 meters), consuming a total of some 106 hectares. ....

ASHIKAGA, Tochigi Evacuation advisories have been issued to 72 households in this east Japan city amid fears over the spread of a wildfire that had already burned through more than 10 hectares of forest in the Mount Ryogai area by the morning of Feb. 24.
The Ashikaga Municipal Government issued the advisories, and as of yet no injuries or damage to homes has been confirmed. According to sources including the municipal government, the fire started near the summit of the 251-meter-high mountain on Feb. 21, and on its path through about 10 hectares of land it has reache ....
