May have started. Reporter the church was empty. A mass in italian for about 50 people had entered about half an hour before. But behind the windows is a choir balcony and a possible electrical problem with a pipe organ. It took almost no time for fire to destroy a church that was open since 1919. Some watched thinking of their many memories. Weve been coming to this church our entire life and you know, its like a second home to us. We come very often. At least almost every weekend. To see it go down like this. Its sad for the community. The community church. So its very heart wrenching to see a church go down in flames and they couldnt stop it from burning. Its very sad. Reporter it couldnt be stopped because fire was already running the lenght of the attic when crews arrived. They ran hose lines inside but the fire was raging over their head, the structure old wood. Stairs and hallway narrow. Crewed retreated to fight the fire from outside, listen as firefighters shout a warning mome ....

Crew escape with their lives - but not much else - after fishing boat sinks near Ketchikan

Four fishermen escaped with their lives over the weekend after a seine vessel sank south of Ketchikan. Crewmembers from another fishing boat heard their distress call over the radio and arrived in time to rescue them.
 
Around 3 a.m. Sunday, Pete Feenstra says he and a three-person crew were readying themselves for a salmon opener south of Ketchikan.
Then he heard a mayday call from the radio. The Mount Pavlof, a fellow seiner, needed help.
“They were kind of booming in on the radio (they) sounded a lot closer than where they had said that they were,” Feenstra said in a phone interview Wednesday. ....
