Two days after being arrested in a lockdown enforcement crackdown, Moses Demian left a hospital and killed himself.
The 24-year-old’s arrest came after some disrespectful lip toward a police officer and a refusal to provide identification.
An aggressive arrest was caught on video for all to see, including Moses’ mom, Hiba, a Toronto Police parking enforcement officer. One of Moses’ sisters, Monica, and a male cousin, are also police officers.
Suffering from depression, said older sister Marina, Moses ended his life out of shame of his arrest and embarrassment caused to his family.
Had a “kinder approach” been employed, “things would have been a lot different” in an “unwarranted and troubling” arrest, said a family statement.

The man who appeared in a viral video being arrested for allegedly flouting Ontario lockdown rules on Saturday has taken his own life, police said in a statement.
Identified as Moses Demian, 24, in a GoFundMe campaign launched on Monday to raise funds for his memorial and funeral says he “was a kind, compassionate, and generous person who will be remembered as someone who constantly went out of his way to help others.”
Demian was arrested on Saturday for allegedly obstructing a police officer at a parking lot outside teashop BONTEA in Scarborough, Ontario. He was handcuffed and arrested for allegedly not providing his identification and swearing at police.
