Mortal Kombat star Joe Taslim has spoken out about his future in the franchise, revealing that he is hopeful that his character Sub-Zero will appear in another
Mortal Kombat movie.
Taslim plays assassin Bi-Han / Sub-Zero in Simon McQuoid s new video game adaptation, although the character does meet a rather fiery end at the hands of Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) at the end of the movie.
However, as video game fans will know, a character s death doesn t necessarily mean that they re actually gone for good, and within the
Mortal Kombat universe Sub-Zero is eventually resurrected into Noob Saibot.

Mortal Kombat, it s not wholly unexpected. The video games have huge and so far cinematically-untapped mythology to pull from.
Mortal Kombat s writer and director both had their eyes, albeit subtly, on the potential for more movies. Director Simon McQuod said: Sequels are a bit tricky because you can t totally ignore them, because that wouldn t be a smart move, but none of us used the S-word. We d never talk about it in any depth whatsoever because we feel like we have to put all our energy into this film.

Mortal Kombat is out now (in the United States at least) and it s had some solid reviews. As you might expect from a blockbuster film released in 2021, there are a few things in there that hint towards future entries.
Lots of character meet grisly ends in the film. But in the finale, we see one of them brought back to life, while another iconic
