The risk of wildfires will increase too, of course. the question is, can technology help get wildfires under control earlier? laura goodwin investigates. it only takes one spark to start a wildfire that can spread for miles and rage for days. with our climate changing and land becoming drier, it s providing the perfect conditions for wildfires to blaze. and even in traditionally cooler parts of the world, wildfires are becoming more unpredictable. mist and cloud are dominating the skyline today but back in the summer, it was very different. it had been particularly dry, and this piece of moorland in west calderjust outside of edinburgh burned for three days. it took 60 firefighters and 12 appliances to eventually bring it under control. ....

Back in 2018, seven square miles at the top of this moorland, this is winterhill behind me, was ablaze in a wildfire about this time of year. but the restoration work that is going on here is holding water in that moor, so it is helping to offset the impacts of climate change like flooding, but also restoring that peat land and the whole ecosystem. the flow of water here is slowed by these willow branches, which keep it up in the moorland rather than running off the hill and flooding towns. ok, so this is the leaky dam? so these are leaky dams, the naturalflood management, where the aim is to hold the water to slow it down. just to slow that flow? yeah. 0k, 0k. yeah, you can see it working and see the water flowing through. you can, you get a really great view from the top. 0h, ok, let s go and have a look. come on, then! we know what we ve got to do. we need those commitments from the powers that be, to commit to ensuring we still strive to get ....

Is still being investigated. cloudier redmond, bbc news. dartmoor national park is one of the only places in england where you can go wild camping, meaning tourists can pitch a tent almost anywhere on the common land of its miles of beautiful open moorland. but many of the local residents, tired of clearing up litter and repairing damage left by visitors, want to see stricter limits on camping there. john maguire has been to find out more. we have to clean up after people, from human excrement. oh, dear. ..to dirty nappies. katie warnes love everything about living on dartmoor. well, almost everything. cleaning up after some visitors is no fun at all. the onus on the clear up from the camping is on owners, so that comes out of, you know, personal pockets. 0ur personal pocket is not deep at all and so, you know, we re having to personally clear up, ....
