Texas WR Preview: How will Sarkisian unlock the Longhorn wideouts?

Perhaps the most underwhelming position for the Texas Longhorns over the past decade has been at the wide receiver group. Since 2010, only four wideouts have been drafted and that includes Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay, both of whom were taken in the 2020 NFL Draft.
But that could all change under new head coach Steve Sarkisian, who oversaw DeVonta Smith becoming the first wide receiver to win the Heisman Trophy since Desmond Howard in 1991.
While it would be a tall tale to expect that out of the Sarkisian era Longhorns right out of the gate, you can expect to see a jump in production at receiver under Texas’ new head coach.

Texas’ depth at safety is lacking following the departure of Caden Sterns to the NFL and Xavion Alford to the transfer portal. The Longhorns do return plenty of highly-rated prospects, including a former five-star safety from Tom Herman’s first full class of 2018. A pair of prospects are beginning to emerge as Texas leans in the 2022 cycle.

Texas went into California for a few exports during Herman s tenure, and while Adimora wasn’t as highly touted as Bru McCoy, Cameron Rising or DeGabriel Floyd, he’s been the most productive of any of the Longhorns Golden State signees. He was a two-way star at Mayfair, earning league MVP honors as a junior and senior because of his play as a wide receiver and defensive back.

Four years and three head coaches later, the University of Colorado Buffaloes have returned to postseason play in the first year of the Karl Dorrell era with a berth in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio against the University of Texas. This marks CU’s first bowl appearance since the magical season of 2016 when the Buffs won 10 games and its first-ever Pac-12 South title before crushing losses to Washington in the Pac-12 Championship and Oklahoma State in the Alamo Bowl.
