But for facilities that work with people who are especially vulnerable, the challenges can be far greater. âIâve never experienced anything like this,â said Melisa Loflin, the resident care coordinator at Sandy Ridge Memory Care and Assisted Living in Candor. âItâs very challenging trying to keep our residents safe, keeping people out of the building, testing, screening and going about our day-to-day thing. According to administrator Harold Van Derveer, Sandy Ridge is the second-largest memory care provider facility in the state of North Carolina. He said they currently provide care for 120 residents: 104 in memory care and 16 in assisted living. ....
