No. 6 Arkansas advances to the Super Regionals The Cardinal s season came to a close Sunday in Fayetteville, Ark.(Photo: JOHN LOZANO/isiphotos.com) 2 hours ago Softball (33-22, 9-12 Pac-12) concluded its season on Sunday with a loss to No. 6 Arkansas (43-9, 19-5 SEC) in the Fayetteville Regional of the NCAA softball tournament. The loss most likely marked the end of the collegiate careers of graduate students Nikki Bauer, Teaghan Cowles, Montana Dixon, Kristina Inouye and Eleni Spirakis, as well as senior Maddy Dwyer. Stanford played its first regional game on Friday against South Dakota State (43-8, 21-1 Summit League). The Cardinal started with an offensive drought, securing no hits in either of the first two innings. Despite the lackluster offense, sophomore pitcher Alana Vawter continued to wow announcers with a slew of strikeouts over the course of the early innings. ....

No. 2 Bruins take all four games against Cardinal Stanford bats were only able to muster a lone run in a four-game series against the No. 2 Bruins. (Photo: JOHN LOZANO/isiphotos.com) on May 10, 2021 Softball (29-18, 8-10 Pac-12) was swept by No. 2 UCLA (38-3, 16-2 Pac-12) in four games over the weekend, though the team put up a good fight in two of them. The series marks the toughest yet for Stanford, who had been riding a 6-2 record in their previous eight games, including two victories against No. 12 Oregon (33-15, 11-10 Pac-12). The offensive firepower from UCLA combined with the Bruins’ superb pitching ended up being too much for the Cardinal. In game one on Friday, UCLA registered 12 hits against sophomore pitcher Alana Vawter, who, before the series, had an ERA of 1.00. Meanwhile, Stanford could manage only three hits on offense, while also committing two errors in the field. Four singles in the bottom of the second translated to two runs for the Bruins, bu ....
(Photo: JOHN LOZANO/isiphotos.com) on April 5, 2021 Softball (22-8, 3-3 Pac-12) improved every game it played against ninth-ranked Arizona (22-5, 6-2 Pac-12) and yet, even its very best wasn’t quite enough, as it fell to the Wildcats 6-1, 5-3 and 2-0 in the final three games of the series. One of the bright spots was the emergence of freshman Aly Kaneshiro as a designated hitter. Kaneshrio had a batting average of .400 in her limited number of at-bats coming into the weekend, and in this series, her strong hitting continued. The difference this weekend was how she compared to the rest of her teammates. In the first game on Friday, the Cardinal were down 4-0 going into the bottom of the fifth and still hadn’t recorded a hit all series, when Kaneshiro was inserted into the lineup as a pinch hitter. She promptly hit her first career home run, giving Stanford its first hit and first run of the series to make the score 4-1. ....
