8:50 a.m. Officer Daniel Miner requests call be placed to DPW to advise the Strathmore door to the catwalk that crosses the canal is propped open with a rock. No people or motor vehicles on site. DPW advised.
12:38 p.m. Reporting party on Chestnut Hill Loop states that about 10 minutes ago her son was threatened by an unknown man outside their residence. Caller states the man threatened to kill her son and stated he knows who his family is. Officer Nathan Pervere advised. Unable to locate. Advised caller to call back if they see him again. ....

Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol was one of the first nursing homes in Worcester County to conduct a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for its residents and staff with CVS/Omnicare pharmacy, Assistant Administrator Michael Kachadoorian said.
“Nursing homes across the state have been paired with a pharmacy CVS or Walgreens and back in the fall when this program was announced, QVH signed up for it immediately,” he said. “We were notified of our clinic date of Dec. 28 just before the Christmas holiday.” ....

COVID-19 numbers continue to rise

Five area towns are in the state’s “red,” or highest-risk, category this week because of a surge in numbers of positive COVID-19 cases, according to its weekly report.
Greenfield, Montague, Deerfield and Orange in Franklin County and Athol in the North Quabbin region saw numbers of cases rise over the past two weeks. The state reports that Greenfield has 134 cases, Montague has 46, Deerfield has 36, Orange has 26 and Athol has 78 cases. There are currently only three towns reporting zero cases: Hawley, Monroe and New Salem. State numbers can lag, so the numbers in each town could be off some. ....

MONTAGUE Instead of his usual visit to Turners Falls, Santa will this year be touring the five villages of Montague in a socially distanced format.
In more typical years, Santa can be found at the winter festival, “It’s a Wonderful Night in Turners Falls,” in early December, where he rides into town on a fire truck, then meets local children and takes photos. ....
