Around 8 in the morning on tuesday, the San Rafael Fire Department responded here to Mountain View avenue on reports of a tree that was about to fall. Upon arrival they discovered that a mudslide had completely destroyed this home. The slide apparently happened slowly over several hours and the family that lives in the house was able to get out safely. Neighbors passing by through out the day were stunned. Sot its unbelievable. It humbles yah. Sotits devastatingsot houses can be rebuilt. There just glass and wood and stuff. Sotim just glad everyone is ok. In addition to destroying this home, the mudslide also continues to threaten the homes on either side. Both have been red tagged by the city and are considered uninhabitable. This has been an issue every time weve seen big storms this winter. Caltrans has been out all day. Trying to pump the water off the highway. All lanes are closed in the westbound direction from atherton avenue to highway 101. One of two eastound lanes is open in that area. Caltrans is working to prevent futher flooding on that stretch of roadway. No word yet on when highway 37 will reopen. And likely not soon. Anyone around coyote creek needs to be on high alert until thursday at 6 30. Were tracking the storm and the rainfall associated with it. Ill have more coming up at 6 10 tonight. That coyote creek stretches several miles in the south bay. Its a tense night for the people at the south bay mobile home park. Roughly 8 inches of water in the back of this park. San jose firefighters are trying to pump the water out. But they say if it keeps rising we could see evacuations. Late today the city of san jose did open two evacuation centers, one at the Roosevelt Community center. Well drifrs are having trouble on 280 in san jose. Theres just a backup because more than a foot of standing water is just puddled there near the winchester exit. Thats really slowing things down. Just one of the problems.
