and we begin tonight with breaking news out of northwest baltimore. good evening, i m terry owens. an offduty balt city miss officer has been shot. this just happened a little after ten. our christian schaffer is enroute to the seen. he ll bring us a report when his signal is established. the baltimore county police office is mourning the loss of one of its own. 32-year-old jason simons died in the 3500 block of rock road. that s in upperco. he was offduty driving in to work. a preliminary investigation shows officer simons was heading east in a chevy f 10 pickup when he lost control of the vehicle on the wet road. it slammed into a guardrail and flipped over trapping him inside. he was flown at that time to shock trauma, and unfortunately shortly after arriving at shock trauma after a lot of great tries to revive him he was pronounced deceased. reporter: he worked in the towson precinct. he leaves behind a 6-year-old child. in a cruel twist of fate. officer simon ....
