A seminar through which we try to provide at the Wilson Center in connection with our partners at the National History center, historical perspectives on international and national affairs. I direct the policy center here at the Wilson Center and i have the honor of cochairing this with my colleague eric arnesen, from washington university. This is a joint initiative between the National History center and the history and Public Policy program here. We are in our ninth year. I hope to see many of you again for future sessions. Let me thank the Lepage Center for public interest, as well as the George Washington history department. Associate professor of history at temple university. Shes a specialist in transnational culture, gender history and the history of cultural globalization. Shes a coeditor of the one of the most important journals in the field, diplomatic history. And her publications include two books. Now, of course, politics of peace published by oxford this year. Its based on this book that she will be speaking to us today. She has coedited two books, the human rights revolution, oxford 2012, and the oxford handbook of the cold war published in 2013. Today she will be speaking on, quote, if you want peace, detours on the path to politics of peace in the early cold war. You have the floor. Thank you very much. So, its a good combination because right now its the 100th an verse of one of the most infamous scandals in baseball history. The black sox scandal where members of the Chicago White sox were accused of throwing the world series to the cincinnati reds. And it brought about many changes in baseball, including getting a commissioner and getting eight players on the white sox banned from baseball for life.
