The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Edo State on Sunday directed its members not to enroll in the state government’s contributory pension scheme. The Assistant General Secretary of NUT in the state, Moni Modesty, who made the call in a statement titled: “Forceful enrollment into contributory pension scheme,” said the directive to the teachers stand until the union decides to change its position on the matter. He added that the decision was a follow-up to the resolution of the NUT Executive Council at its last meeting held on December 29, 2020. Modesty said: “As a follow-up to the resolutions of the State Wing Executive Council (SWEC) of the union at its last meeting held on December 29, 2020; especially on the issue of Contributory Pension Scheme for primary school teachers in Edo State, I have been directed to inform all SWEC members, school heads and primary schools teachers in the state not to fill any document having to do with the contributory pension ....
Punch Newspapers Sections Adeyinka Adedipe, Benin Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, on Sunday, directed its members to shun enrollment into the state government’s contributory pension scheme. Edo primary school teachers issue 14-day strike notice Adeyinka Adedipe, Benin Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers has issued a 14-day strike notice to the state government over alleged failure to meet its financial obligation and other entitlements. The union had on December 8, 2020, gave the state government 21-day to fulfil its promises or its members would embark on an indefinite industrial action. The communiqué for the 14-day strike notice, dated December 29, 2020, signed by the state chairman, Pius Okhueleigbe and Assistant General Secretary, Moni Modesty, and four others, was made available to newsmen in Benin on Wednesday. In the communiqué, the union noted that the 14-day ultimatum which takes effect from Tuesday, 29 December 2020, was to enable the Edo State government meet its demands. ....
