Drury Returns At Mohawk Qualifiers | Standardbred Canada

A session of eight qualifiers circled the track at Woodbine Mohawk Park on a spring-like Thursday (March 11) under burgeoning sunshine and over a fast surface.
Moneyman Hill opened the session with a pocket-popping 1:54 mile over his stablemate Always A Hotshot, driven by a returning Jonathan Drury. Moneyman Hill, who finished third in last year s North America Cup, followed Always A Hotshot through fractions of :28, :57 and 1:25.4 before pouncing with a :28 final quarter and getting a head in front at the beam. Doug McNair drove the four-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding for trainer Carmen Auciello.
Drury had just the one drive during the qualifying session but the reinsman is slated for six drives on Saturday (March 13) at Woodbine Mohawk Park. In 2020, Drury finished eighth among all drivers with more than $2.9 million in earnings on Canadian soil. Spots of sunshine shone on Woodbine Mohawk Park for the 10-race qualifying session on Thursday (March 4) over a track rated “good”.
Northern Sultan started the session with the fastest trotting mile on the morning, clocking a mile in 1:58.4 after sweeping towards the lead circling the final turn. Stalking fractions of :30.1, :59.2 and 1:29.1, Northern Sultan capped the mile with a :29.1 final quarter in rein to Chris Christoforou. Murray Brethour trains the four-year-old Royalty For Life gelding.
In the following event, Play Jet Ray went the fastest pacing mile, strolling gate to wire in 1:55.3. Also with Christoforou in the bike, the six-year-old Shadow Play gelding set a pace of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:27.4 before sprinting to the finish in :27.4 while pressured by pocket-popper Fast N First.
