Superintendent of Kushtia police SM Tanvir Arafat yesterday apologised to the High Court for misbehaving with a senior judicial magistrate during Bheramara municipality elections on January 16.
He also promised that such a mistake would not occur again.
The SP apologised and gave an undertaking to the HC through swearing an affidavit.
In the affidavit, he admitted that he misbehaved with Judicial Magistrate Md Mohsin Hasan and regretted for the incident.
SP Arafat in the affidavit said he is highly remorseful for his unintentional act with the judicial magistrate and he would be more serious and cautious in discharging his duties and such types of mistake would not happen in future. ....

High Court shows concern over Kushtia's 'horrible' situation

The top court also expressed worries over the complaints on recent reports of police persecution in Jashore.
On Jan 20, the High Court summoned Police Superintendent Tanvir Arafat to explain his misbehaviour with Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Mohsin Hasan.
It also issued a rule asking why no contempt of court charges should be brought against him. The ruling came after media reports on the incident.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan accused SP Arafat and his team of ‘misbehaving’ with him and stopping him from performing his duties during the Bheramara Municipality election on Jan 16.
The magistrate filed a plea with the Election Commission on Jan 17 seeking actions against the SP and his team. ....

The High Court yesterday directed the inspector general of police to provide security to the official who witnessed policemen misbehaving with a judicial magistrate during the municipality polls in Kushtia.
Shahjahan Ali, who was the presiding officer at Bheramara Pilot Model High School in Kushtia, told the court yesterday that he and his family members were scared of police.
During the polls on January 16, Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan was talking to Shahjahan about allegations of voter fraud at the school, when Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafath and several other police officers interrupted the conversation and asked Mohsin him to leave, according to complaints the latter had made. ....

HC summons Kushtia SP to explain 'misbehaviour' with magistrate

He, however, could not provide details on the issue instantly.
According to the media reports, Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan entered the polling centre at Bheramara Pilot Model High School in Kushtia upon receiving allegation of irregularities from a voter during the municipality election on January 16.
He saw some people along with the polling agents gathered at the centre.
While the judicial magistrate was asking the presiding officer of the polling centre about it, SP Tanvir Arafath along with Assistant SP Mostafizur Rahman and their forces appeared there and called the presiding officer.
Even after the Judicial magistrate introduced himself, SP Tanvir Arafath questioned why he had entered the polling station and also asked him to leave, according to the media reports. ....

A judicial magistrate of Kushtia has filed a complaint, bringing allegation of misconduct against Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kushtia SM Tanvir Arafath.
A copy of the complaint lodged by Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohsin Hasan of Kushtia Judicial Magistrate Court with the Election Commission on January 17 has been sent to the Registrar General s Office of the Supreme Court for necessary action.
Registrar General of the Supreme Court Md Ali Akbar confirmed that his office received the copy last night, reports our Kushtia correspondent.
Copies of the complaint have also been sent to the law and home ministries and the office of Inspector General of Police. ....
