KUALA LUMPUR: ZI Publications Sdn Bhd director Mohd Ezra Mohd Zaid, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) as well as five others have reached an agreement on the assessment of damages for him for wrongful prosecution by the Selangor Chief Syarie Prosecutor in 2013.
KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 ― The High Court today asked both Mohd Ezra Mohd Zaid and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to attempt to settle on the amount of compensation to be paid to him, over Jais’ past wrongful Shariah prosecution in relation to a book in Bahasa Malaysia published.

PETALING JAYA: The Syariah Court Thursday discharged and acquitted ZI Publications Sdn Bhd Director Mohd Ezra Mohd Zaid on charges related to publishing a book seven years ago, deemed to be against Islamic law.
This follows the decision of Syariah Lower Court Judge Shukran Yusof to reject the prosecution’s application to grant Mohd Ezra a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.
Shukran said that after studying the oral and written submission of both prosecution and defence, he found that if the accused was granted a discharge not amounting to acquittal, it would turn into an academic issue.

SHAH ALAM, Dec 17 The Shariah court today decided to release and acquit Mohd Ezra Mohd Zaid from a trial over a Bahasa Malaysia book published in 2012 by his company, which means the Shariah proceedings he had faced since his arrest and the book seizures about eight years ago have fully ended.
Last week, the Shariah prosecution applied to the Shariah court for three court orders, namely to partially release Ezra without acquitting him via a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) order, and for the books to effectively not be returned to his company ZI Publications but to be forfeited and destroyed, and to block Ezra from talking about the case.
