Good evening, im jeff pegues. Climbing mouunt everest is one of the greatest challenges there is. The tallest mountain in the world unforgiving, yet every year hundreds try. Today a group well acquainted with the danger, nepalese guides, was killed when an avalanche came crashing down. It happened at 19,000 feet. At least 12 were killed, making it the deadliest disaster on mt. Everest ever. Four are missing. Clarissa ward begins our coverage. Reporter the avalanche hit early in the morning as local guides known as sherpas readied the route for other climbers. With no apparent warning, a wall of snow and ice swept over the western shoulder of everest. That part of the path is nicknamed the popcorn field, due to its distinctive, jagged blocks of ice that from a distance make it look like a bowl of popcorn. Alpine guide ben jones told us avalanches like this one happen all the time. He was at Everest Base Camp and rushed to help when todays hit. Reporter some survivors were airlifted to a
