For years, the Serowe West constituency has been led by people from Gamma-Ngwato royal house but this past weekend, Onalepelo Kedikilwe who is not from the Khama royal house, won the by-election under the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF). Even though it went into the Serowe West by-election divided, the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) over the weekend beat the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in a constituency that was once its stronghold.
Despite the visible low turnout of spectators at their final star rally in Serowe yesterday, the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is confident of a win today. Serowe West constituents will this morning vote for its Member of Parliament (MP) following the disqualification of the area's now former MP, Tshekedi 'TK' Khama. Khama, who is in self-exile in SA, was disqualified following his absenteeism in parliamentary sessions.
Ahead of the Serowe West by-elections, political parties yesterday (Friday) hosted final star rallies with the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) pulling the largest crowd and the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) drawing the smallest gathering.
