Governor Cooper Extends Modified Stay at Home Order Amid Rising Case Counts


   
RALEIGH: Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen shared an update today on North Carolina s efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and support the vaccination effort currently underway.
    Governor Cooper extended North Carolina s Modified Stay At Home Order that requires people to be at home from 10 pm–5 am to last through at least Friday, January 29. Secretary Cohen also issued a Secretarial Directive with stark warnings for North Carolinians to avoid indoor spaces without masks and gatherings between households. RALEIGH, N.C. Governor Roy Cooper extended North Carolina’s Modified Stay At Home Order for at least another three weeks in an news conference today providing COVID-19 updates.
Gov. Cooper and health officials say the order requiring people to be stay home from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. will be in effect until at least January 29th, as North Carolina is seeing some of its highest case counts in just the past few days.
“We have turned the page on a new year – one that we’re hoping will bring better times. But as we know, the virus didn’t disappear at midnight on December 31,” Governor Cooper said. “In fact, in North Carolina, we have seen some of our highest case counts, percent positives, hospitalizations and ICU bed usage numbers in the past few days. No matter where you live, work, worship or play, COVID-19 remains a deadly threat, and we must treat it that way.” ....

Drinks-to-go executive order gets mixed reviews from N.C. restaurant, bar owners


FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) After more than a week of being permitted to sell drinks to go, business owners are getting mixed reviews from the Order s bottom line.
The order will help people avoid settings that can contribute to increased viral spread while giving restaurants and bars a financial boost that they need right now, Cooper said.
After more than a week of the Order in place Todd Harr, owner of 22 Klicks Bar and Grill in Hope Mills has opted out of cocktail delivery due to the potential extra liability but plans to continue with to-go drinks with extra precautions in place even though the concept is off to a slow start at his business. ....
