Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi inaugurated the Discovery Campus of Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), located at Thaiyur near Chennai, to accommodate the growing research infrastructure requirements of students and faculty.
The virtual inauguration was held on February 14, 2021, in the presence of the Governor of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and a host of other dignitaries.

The virtual inauguration was held on Sunday in the presence of the Governor of Tamil Nadu Shri Banwarilal Purohit, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Shri Edappadi K. Palaniswami and a host of other dignitaries.
