Published Wednesday, June 9, 2021 11:40AM EDT Last Updated Wednesday, June 9, 2021 11:45AM EDT A new 2,500-person capacity concert venue is coming to the Beach and the city councillor for the area says that he expects it to be a “world class” facility that will help to fill some gaps created by the recent closure of dozens of performance venues in Toronto. The Live Nation venue, which is being launched in partnership with rapper Drake, will be called History Toronto and will be located in the former home of an off track betting facility and movie theatre at 1663 Queen Street East. It will feature a convertible general admission area and reserved seating configurations and will host upwards of 200 events each year, according to Live Nation.

Back in November, Toronto concertgoers hearts collectively broke after the announcement that the city s Mod Club Theatre would be shutting down for good. Now it appears the club will be reopening but under a new name.
Earlier this week, Arlo Parks mapped out a North American tour that includes a stop at the former College Street venue in September, in an announcement that has befuddled local music fans and industry workers alike. Closer inspection of the show s ticket listings reveals a statement that appears to signal the venue has been taken over by a new group who have renamed the spot the Axis Club.

“Chosen Family,” Rina Sawayama’s soaring ballad dedicated to LGBTQ+ individuals who lost family and friends after coming out, has just gotten a piano-driven makeover courtesy of Sir Elton John. A new lyric video shows Sawayama with flowing, mermaid hair and peony silk gloves, singing beside John in a glistening black blazer.
The new version scales down some of the production of the original. The British singers trade verses over John’s delicate piano playing, before duetting on the triumphant, gale-force chorus: “We don’t need to be related to relate/ We don’t need to share genes or a surname,” John and Sawayama sing, poignantly. “You are, you are, my chosen family.”
