A bigger picture: This Alabama Jewish film fest is no longer a local affair

Presenting the annual Mobile Jewish Film Festival in an online format isn’t necessarily what organizers preferred to do, but the COVID-era necessity has transformed the event into a regional happening involving groups in Huntsville and Pensacola.
“That’s something the pandemic has done,” said Barry Silverman, one of the event’s co-chairs at the Mobile Jewish Federation. “It’s changed our life and things are not going to go back to how they were. … Some things have opened up.”
For potential viewers, the festival is a straightforward affair. Between March 5 and March 25 the festival will present seven films for online viewing; each will be available for a three-day window. Patrons have the option of subscribing to the whole slate for $60 or to buy tickets to individual films ($9 for single tickets, $15 for household viewing). ....
