Moberly Monitor-Index Hiring a firm to develop a marketing strategy for some historical downtown property and amending trash pick up services were among the highlights of Monday s business meeting by the Moberly City Council. The city will pay a firm named McClure $31,800 to develop and help execute a marketing plan for revitalizing the former Fennel Building Complex in an effort to enhance the local economy and business growth. Grant monies received through the Mark Twain Regional Council of Government will pay for such service in full said City Manager Brian Crane. The complex site is located at the corner of Clark and Coates streets, immediately west of both the police and main fire station. ....
Moberly Monitor-Index Whether to invest and construct, or to walk away from the idea of building a new hotel in the Moberly downtown district are questions that the City of Moberly hopes the results of a market analysis and feasibility study will help interested parties involved to make their business decision. This subject was one of the agenda items discussed by the Moberly City Council at its April 19 business meeting. The council gave its blessing Monday for the city to hire Grey Hospitality Group for $10,500 plus direct expenses to conduct a study concerning a need to construct a hotel on property located at 220 W. Reed. The proposed hotel would be located at the southeast corner of Reed and Williams and the hotel structure would extend east toward the former Commerce Bank building. ....
Moberly Monitor-Index Donald Ryan was formally hired March 1 by the Moberly City Council to become the new fire department chief. His first day at the helm will be April 5 and Ryan succeeds George Albert, who retired Aug. 1 after four years serving as Moberly Fire Department Chief and a total of 38 years in the profession. Since Albert s departure, Jerry Washam temporarily transitioned from being captain to interim fire chief. “We feel that Don Ryan will be very beneficial to the department. He has many years of fire-fighting experience, and his overall qualifications the people involved with the interview process believed Don Ryan would be the best choice,” said Brian Crane, Moberly City Manager. ....
Moberly Monitor-Index Upon receiving its CARES Act monies for the purpose of upgrading its technology that would enhance online broadcast streaming of events taking place at Moberly City Hall, the city council on Monday chose to delay its installation within the chamber floor. That s because during a Jan. 4 work session that followed a public business meeting, the council is considering to take a proactive cost approach plan that involves renovating the facility first while providing extra public safety measures in its design. “If you look at the recent 10 years of tragic reports where shootings have taken place in public gatherings and meetings, the concern for public safety has grown.
