YPSILANTI, MI - It’s been difficult to meet up with three of her best friends throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Maddie Nishioka said. So when they do get together, she wants to make it count.
Maddie and her friends Kate Stemmer, Lauren Miller and M’Kaegan Hall went on socially-distanced bike rides and wore masks on the rare occasions they were able to hang out when COVID-19 infections went down last summer.
But, when Maddie and her mother saw the opportunity to do something for the community through the National Day of Service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the girls quickly jumped at the chance to do more by helping homeless youth in Washtenaw County.
