In response to anti-police marchers clad in black bloc garb repeatedly damaging property across the city after dark, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler extended a state of emergency last week and asked city residents to assist police in a crackdown. The mayor asked citizens to report the license plate numbers of black-clad demonstrators arriving in their neighborhood. Last month, President Joe Biden revoked several of the executive orders issued by his predecessor, Donald Trump, including one tagging Portland as an anarchist jurisdiction. The designation by the U.S. Department of Justice could have prevented Portland along with New York and Seattle from receiving some federal funding. The blocks surrounding the federal courthouse have become a fixation of national news pundits, who declared downtown a war zone during last summer s protests, and now use images of a boarded-up shops as evidence for this city s decline. Dual and concurrent courses are opening doors for high school students in Sheridan County School District 2.
Mitch Craft, an assistant superintendent with the district, explained the benefits of the courses in a joint meeting of trustees with the school district and the Northern Wyoming Community College District Monday night.
Craft said in the 2019-20 school year, 95 juniors and seniors at Sheridan High School and John C. Schiffer Collaborative School earned 550 college credits in dual enrollment, and over 319 students earned over 1,600 credits in concurrent enrollment. He said numbers for this year are projected, because the year isn’t yet complete, but so far there are just over 90 students in dual enrollment and just over 290 in concurrent.
