MIT atomic physicist Richard Fletcher has been named a 2023 Packard Fellow for Science and Engineering. MIT alumni Ritchie Chen and Yang Yang were also named.
The U.S. National Science Foundation’s Physics Frontiers Centers program renewed a grant to the MIT-Harvard Center for Ultracold Atoms for $3.6 million per year for six years to fund exploring, understanding, and harnessing mysterious phenomena at the frontiers of physics.
Physicists in the MIT-Harvard Center for Ultracold Atoms developed a new approach to control the outcome of chemical reactions, using minute changes in a magnetic field to make subtle changes to the quantum mechanical wavefunction of the colliding particles during the chemical reaction.
