Backed by a new corporate sponsor, it appears the Mississippi Spelling Bee is on solid footing, a remarkable turn-around from this time two years ago, when the state spelling bee was in jeopardy after losing its long-time financial sponsor.
For the third year in a row, the Mississippi Spelling Bee is going to be held in Columbus, and volunteer board members are looking to generate buzz and fundraise for the event.
On Saturday, Mississippi’s top young spellers will compete in the Mississippi Spelling Bee on the campus of Mississippi University for Women. The field will include 42 local spelling bee champs from 40 counties, ranging from grades 2 through 8.
