Space Institute Confirmed As Partner In First Govt-funded Space Mission

Te Pūnaha Ātea-Auckland Space Institute, based
at the University of Auckland, has joined with Rocket Lab
and a team of the country’s leading atmospheric and
remote-sensing researchers on New Zealand’s first space
mission funded by the Government.
Research,
Science and Innovation Minister Dr Megan Woods announced the
partners working with the New Zealand Space Agency and
leading global environmental NGO the Environmental Defense
Agency on the MethaneSAT mission at the Rocket Lab
headquarters in Auckland today. (Friday 23 April)

New Zealand’s first government funded space mission has taken a ‘giant leap’ with Auckland University’s Te Pūnaha Ātea-Auckland Space Institute announced as the permanent host of the New Zealand based mission control centre for a global methane tracking satellite.
“MethaneSAT is a really exciting opportunity to showcase New Zealand’s science and research expertise on the world stage, while making a significant contribution to climate change by mapping agricultural emissions of greenhouse gases.
