I am pleased to welcome acting administrator Robert Lightfoot to the commerce and science appropriations subcommittee hearing to examine nasas fiscal year 2018 budget request. Mr. Lightfoot my works well together during his tenure as the director of nasas Flight Center in huntsville alabama. Mr. Lightfoot thank you for serving as nasas leader during this time of change and i appreciate you joining us here today. The administration has proposed a fiscal year 2018 budget of 19. 1 billion for nasa which is a reduction of 2. 9 from the current year level. While this overall cut is less than many other agencies that have experienced the president s budget request reflects a significant reduction of 561 million dollars.
