Community Content From your friends at the Stoneham Historical Society & Museum Stoneham is a desirable community for many reasons, not the least of which is our architectural treasurers. Many historic homes have been demolished over the years, but many fine examples remain and have wonderful stories to tell. Those tales are alive and available in the Stoneham Historical Society & Museum archives. Much of this story was shared by this author 10 years ago, but is worthy of updating and re-telling. Stoneham may be unique in the Commonwealth, even in the nation, for its number of octagon houses. A list compiled in 1950 documented only 21 standing in Massachusetts but per Wikipedia today, only eight are described and a total of 80 in all the United States. ....
