The FIR named producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Bhaumik Gondaliya under IPC sections 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC along with sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Mirzapur SP Ajay Kumar Singh said, “On the complaint of one Arvind Chaturvedi of Chilbiliya village, a case has been lodged against the producers of the web-series Mirzapur and the OTT platform company Amazon Prime Video under appropriate sections of IPC and IT Act.”

Varanasi: An FIR has been lodged against the makers of the popular web series Mirzapur and the OTT platform company Amazon Prime Video at Mirzapur Kotwali (Dehat) police station in Varanasi for allegedly hurting the religious and social sentiments of the people and distorting the image of the city Mirzapur which known for having the shrine of Goddess Vindhyavasini.
Ajay Kumar Singh, Superintend of Police (SP) of Mirzapur said that the FIR has been lodged against the producers of the web series and Amazon Prime Video under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology IT Act based on a complaint of one Arvind Chaturvedi, a resident of Chilbiliya village.
