SRINAGAR: Mirza Afzal Beg’s son, Dr Aijaz Ahmad Beg is no more. He was the brother of politician Dr Mehboob Beg, the incumbent Secretary-General of the PDP.
Reports said that Dr Aijaz was living at the family’s Sarnal residence in Anantnag. He suffered a heart attack earlier during the day. He is survived by two daughters. Dr Aijaz had served the health department throughout his career and retired as Chief Medical Officer.
The death was condoled by the political class.

ISLAMABAD: The Commission appointed by the President to enquire into the circumstances of the hijacking of the Indian civil aircraft to Lahore on January 30 this year has come to the conclusion that the hijacking was arranged by the Indian intelligence agencies as the culmination of a series of actions taken by the Indian Government to bring about a situation of confrontation between Pakistan and India. These included, the Commission said, Indian attacks on Batrigach and other Pakistani enclaves in December 1970, externment of Sheikh Abdullah and Mirza Afzal Beg from Kashmir, banning the Plebiscite Front and expulsion of a First Secretary of Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. ....

SIALKOT: Candidates of the Plebiscite Front in occupied Kashmir would not be allowed to contest elections even as independent candidates unless they pledged in writing to give up their secessionist views on Kashmir. This was stated yesterday [Jan 27] in Jammu by Mr. G.M. Sadiq the puppet Chief Minister of the held State.
According to information coming from across the cease-fire line while talking to newsmen he said . “If Plebiscite workers are keen to contest elections they shall have to submit an affidavit along with their nomination papers that they subscribe to the view that Kashmir is an integral part of India”. .
