Advocates push for Biden to use his executive powers to grant clemency for hundreds of women in federal prisons
Miquelle West was 10 when she learned the harsh realities about the criminal justice system as her mother was handed two life sentences plus 50 years in a federal lockup for a conspiracy drugs case that was connected to a murder.
“My mom has been in prison since 1992 and she was a first-time offender … I’ve been working my whole life to help my mom get a second opportunity because she shouldn’t have served so many years for a crime that she actually did not commit,” West, now 38, told CNN about her mother Michelle West. ....

President Joe Biden declared April Second Chance Month acknowledging that incarcerated people deserve second chances, but he hasn t given second chances to 100 incarcerated women by granting them clemency, according to former criminal defense attorney turned activist Andrea James.
Andrea James, a former criminal defense attorney turned activist, is pushing President Joe Biden to grant clemency to 100 incarcerated women within his first 100 days in office through the #FreeHer campaign. 
James is the executive director of the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, which launched the #FreeHer campaign seeking clemency for 100 women within Biden s first 100 days. She said that these women should be granted clemency because they have served enough time for their convictions. ....
