FIDE Masters Susal de Silva and Minul Doluweera scored 4.5 points each out of a possible nine games at the end of the Asian Continental Hybrid Chess Championship while scoring the highest performance by a Sri Lankan player ever.Being initially ranked 63rd and 61st according to their current FIDE Ratings, Susal managed to reach the 36th place while Minul finished 42nd in the final rankings.Susal, who came with less experience, finished in 36th. ....

Theekshana Denuwan defeated Kazakhstan Women’s Grandmaster Dauletova Gulmira in round six of the Asian Continental Hybrid Chess Championships, continued yesterday. Theekshana’s victory was more significant as his opponent Gulmira has a standard rating of 2,285 and is an Olympic Bronze Medallist having more experience. Theekshana obtained three points with this result and also climbed to the 46th position. Meanwhile, Skipper Raninidu Liyanage also recorded a victory in this sixth-round while Susal de Silva and Minul Doluweera had to be satisfied with a draw in their respective games. However, Susal was able to steal half a point with a draw against Chinese International Master Lou Yiping (2,472) who participated even in the Chess World Cup 2013. ....

Sri Lankan FIDE Master Susal de Silva of Nalanda College once again stole the limelight on the fourth day of the Asia Continental Hybrid Chess Championship, which continued yesterday. The fifteen-year-old figured in a tough battle and finally managed to finish with a draw against the Kazakhstan International Master, Assaubayeva Bibisara (2,381). Earlier, in round one, de Silva drew with Uzbekistan FIDE Master Sattarov Bobir and in the third-round he won against the Mongolian FIDE Master Chinguun Sumiya. De Silva started this tournament with a ranking of 63 and now he has moved to rank 39 which is the best rank among the four Sri Lankan players competing in this tournament. ....

Sri Lanka’s youngest FIDE Master, Susal de Silva of Nalanda College beat the Mongolian FIDE Master Chingun Sumiya (2,269) while FIDE Master, Minul Doluweera drew with Malaysian FIDE Master Lim Zhou Ren (2,311) in the third-round of the Asian Continental Hybrid Chess Championships, which continued yesterday. Fifteen-year-old Susal had a good day in the third round and moved to the rank of 47 with this victory and presently he maintains the best rank among the four Sri Lankans competing in the tournament. However, Skipper Ranindu Liyanage lost to International Master Abdhujapar Asyl (2,403) of Mongolia while Theekshana Denuwan also lost to Subrota Biswas (2,268) of Bangladesh. ....
