City of Richmond planning new $94 million community centre for Steveston

Three locations within Steveston Park were considered, including the footprint of the existing community and recreational facilities, but ultimately city council chose the option with the least construction cost of approximately $93.5 million, allowing the existing facilities to remain operational to the public during construction, and the fastest construction period.
This includes $56 million for the new building with a total floor area of 60,350 sq. ft., $20 million for site preparation, and $14.5 million for 160 additional and replacement vehicle parking stalls, with 60 stalls located underground and 100 stalls on the surface. The construction timeline is estimated to be between four and five years.
In contrast, the other site options to the west carried a construction cost of up to $140.5 million and a construction period up to eight years. ....
