PHILIPSBURG: - St. Maarten had much to celebrate on Saturday morning as the island made history by beginning Homeporting for cruise lines. The first cruise line that opted to begin their Caribbean cruise from St. Maarten is Celebrity.
Among those that attended the historic ceremony were Members of Parliament Grisha Heyliger Marten, Mellissa Gumbs with Ministers of Health Rodolphe Samuel, Minister of Health Omar Ottley, Minister of Finance Ardwell Irion, Minister of Justice Anna Richardson, Minister of Economic Affairs Ludmilla de Weever, and Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs.

Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs sent a terse response to State Secretary Raymond Knops’ letter of May 12th, with regards to the delays of the 5th tranche NAf 39 million liquidity support expected by St. Maarten since the week following the decision made on April 23rd in the Kingdom Council. In responding to the May 12th letter, Prime Minister Jacobs drew reference to the events leading to the delays.

PHILIPSBURG: - Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs said on Wednesday that St. Maarten still did not receive the NAF39M liquidity support from the Netherlands neither the loan agreement even though St. Maarten has fully complied with all conditions set forth by the Dutch Government, said liquidity support since April 2021.
The country’s Prime Minister further stated that the goalposts are being moved for different reasons that have nothing to do with the conditions and agreements made between the government of St. Maarten and the Netherlands. She said in March the goalposts were moved due to the COHO law and Parliament’s stance on the matter, that issue she said is now off the table, but the latest issues raised in the State Secretary’s letter regarding issues at Princess Juliana International Airport has surfaced. ....
