1,196 cases of mucormycosis in T.N., more drugs required

Chennai has the most number of cases at 420 Tamil Nadu has so far reported 1,196 cases of mucormycosis in 25 districts. According to officials of the Health Department, as of June 9, as many as 1,196 patients in the State have been affected by mucormycosis, while the total allocation of Liposomal Amphotericin-B from the Centre is 7,330 vials. “We received additional allocation on Wednesday. But we are still running short of the drug,” a health official said. Earlier, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had written to the Union Health Minister, seeking immediate allocation of at least 30,000 vials to the State.

India s GDP contracts by 7.3% in FY2020-21, rises 1.6% in Q4 News Network May 31, 2021 New Delhi, May 31: India s economy grew by 1.6 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2020-21, restricting the full-year contraction to 7.3 per cent, official data showed on Monday. The fourth quarter growth was better than the 0.5 per cent expansion in the previous October-December quarter of 2020-21. The gross domestic product (GDP) had expanded by 3 per cent in the corresponding January-March period of 2019-20, according to data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO). In 2020-21, the Indian economy contracted by 7.3 per cent against 4 per cent expansion in 2019-20, showing the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Image Source: IANS News Hubballi : , May 22 (IANS) After more than 200 cases of black fungus infection were found across the state, a five-member committee of mycologists formed by the Karnataka government has recommended that hospitals should use only distilled water in humidifiers and replace nasal cannulas when another patient occupies the oxygenated beds, besides giving thrust to proper sanitisation of ICUs. Mucormycosis or black fungus is a rare infection caused by exposure to mucor mould which is commonly found in soil, plants, manure and decaying fruits and vegetables. An increasing number of Covid patients in the country are contracting this infection for the past few weeks.
