Riga, Jan 5 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Jan, 2021 ) :Latvia s prime minister on Tuesday fired his health minister in a row over coronavirus vaccination policy, straining ties within the governing coalition.
Krisjanis Karins said the Baltic state was struggling with the consequences of not having a clear and comprehensible plan of action .
Latvia has focused its vaccination plan mainly on the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, which has so far not been authorised in the European Union.
Government opponents have criticised the slow start of Latvia s vaccination campaign and the choice to purchase a relatively small amount of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, which have been authorised by the European Medicines Agency. ....

No-referral COVID testing might be extended

Until the end of this week, a state-paid COVID-19 test can be done without a referral. Health Ministry is now considering extension of this period, Latvian Television reported December 28.
The possibility of free access to COVID-19 tests has been provided during the two final weeks of December, taking into account the fact that receiving a referral from a family doctor or an emergency doctor during the holidays could be difficult. The only rule is that there should be symptoms of coronavirus, such as fever, sore throat or loss of smell and taste.

RIGA - On Monday morning, the first people received the Covid-19 vaccines at Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital, the hospital s representative Janita Veinberga reported.
The first vaccine was administered at 8:02 a.m.
Veinberga said that in three days the hospital plans to vaccinate 1,055 people.
One of the hospital s medics, Janis Vetra, who received the vaccine on Monday, said in a Twitter post that the pandemic has taken much from people in 2020, and it is quite unbelievable that a counterstrike can be started alre.
