PM Apologises Unreservedly For Deaths Of Innocent People In Ballymurphy The Prime Minister has apologised unreservedly for the events that led to the death of 10 innocent civilians in Ballymurphy in August 1971. Boris Johnson made the apology on behalf of the UK Government. A Downing Street spokesman said: He said the conclusions of the Ballymurphy Inquest, published yesterday, were deeply sad and that the events of August 1971 were tragic. The Prime Minister apologised unreservedly on behalf of the UK Government for the events that took place in Ballymurphy and the huge anguish that the lengthy pursuit of truth has caused the families of those killed.

Robbie Butler Will Not Stand For UUP Leadership UUP MLA Robbie Butler has confirmed he will not stand for the leadership of the party. Doug Beattie is the only contender in the running to replace current leader Steve Aiken. In a statement Mr Butler said: Whilst I have given thought to the idea of leading the party at some stage, I did not expect to be considering it this week. Events late last week have caused me to focus my thinking and aspirations for the future of Northern Ireland and my role within the UUP. It has been perhaps one of the greatest pleasures of my life to continue my 20-year public service into the political sphere and it is my intention to continue on that path for the foreseeable future; however at this stage, it will not be as the leader of the Ulster Unionist Party.

Executive To Discuss Easing NI Restrictions The Executive is to discuss easing Coronavirus restrictions in Northern Ireland at a meeting today, 13 May. International travel and allowing the hospitality sector to reopen and whether people can hug each other again are some of the topics to be discussed. First Minister Arlene Foster said: We will want to discuss that (hugging), it is something we are discussing today amongst ourselves as well. We know that there is a lot of people who have been waiting for that time, I know certainly I have in terms of my own mother, so I am looking forward to being able to have those discussions.
