West Bengal Assembly elections 2021: Bus and lorry operators seek 2019 Lok Sabha dues

A forum of bus and lorry operators in Bengal has written to the state’s chief electoral officer telling him that they would not give their vehicles for election duty if their dues from the 2019 Lok Sabha elections are not cleared.
In a letter addressed to the chief electoral officer on Monday, the forum demanded full payment of “hiring charges of the vehicles that were engaged in the 2019 Parliamentary Election duty immediately .
The letter states that members of the forum were yet to receive 50 per cent of their expenses from Calcutta North and Calcutta South districts each.
The two-page letter also states that the dues were 100 per cent in North 24-Parganas, 20 per cent in South 24-Parganas and 10 per cent in all other districts. ....

Call for 3-day bus strike from January 28 - Telegraph India

Five private bus and minibus unions have called a three-day strike from January 28 to protest the rising price of diesel which, union members said, had further intensified their struggle for existence amid the Covid pandemic.
The decision was taken on Tuesday after members of the five unions held a meeting and discussed the fallout of the rising price of diesel on business.
On Tuesday, diesel sold at Rs 78.72 a litre in Calcutta. A month back, the price was around Rs 68.14 a litre in the city.
“The price of diesel has been rising regularly since June and we have not been getting enough passengers to see any profit during this period,” said Pradip Narayan Bose of the West Bengal Bus and Minibus Owners Association. ....

Bus strike threat over pending dues to be cleared by state govt

Private bus operators of around 10 routes across Calcutta have threatened to suspend their operations from Wednesday till the state government clears the dues for transporting personnel and materials during the lockdown and even after the unlock process started.
Operators said that between March 26 and September 30, the state government had hired their buses to ferry personnel from hospitals and other government-run establishments to different locations.
After the lockdown was withdrawn in phases, the transport department said it would pay the amount it owed to the operators but that has not happened till date.
“Over 40 buses and minibuses were hired during the period. The outstanding amount is in excess of Rs 52 lakh. The owners of the buses on around 10 routes have told us that they would suspend their operations from tomorrow till the dues are cleared,” said Pradip Narayan Bose, of the West Bengal Bus and Mini Bus Owners Association. ....
